Surprise!

The gravest time of the year had come. It was time to face the toughest enemy of them all, shopping. I reluctantly took my stuff, and along with my mom started our journey to doomland. We reached there in an hour, but it felt like an eternity. We went in and started looking at some clothes. One after the other, we went into different warzones. And after a loooooo… ooooot of time, the battle against shopping finally ended at the 12th shop. I sighed in relief. Whew! Then we both went to a restaurant to have food. I went to the washroom to wash my hands. And there was where the fun began. I found two very tall and strong-looking men whispering inside.

"Hey, are all are bombs ready?"

"Yup. We and the troops are ready to commence the attack."

"Does he know about it?"

"Nope."

"He must have been thinking that we have forgotten about it. In that case, he's wrong."

"Oh yeah."

Then they both exited the restroom quickly. What were they chatting about? What attack? What troops? Who was 'he'? Where would they strike? So many questions were swarming my mind. I washed my hands in record time, and throughout my meal, I kept an eye on them. They were eating at a table just beside me.

These mysterious men (MM) left moments before my mother and me. I needed to find them before something disastrous happened! My mother needed to shop for herself now, so I told her that I would be in the mall in SMAAASH – the playarea. She said OK, and gave me an hour’s time. I rushed outside and started looking for the two men. I found them going down an elevator. I almost ran and started following them. They kept going down. I guessed they had to take their car to their base or whatever. I passed them and heard one of them saying "...B-245." That probably meant they had their car parked at that pillar number. I went to the basement and went to pillar number B-245. There was only one car parked there.

The MM soon arrived and one of them unlocked the car, I silently and swiftly opened it’s trunk and sat in it, gently closing it as soon as I got in. The men didn't notice anything and sat in the car. I had already used up 10 minutes of my one hour. They started the engine and exited the mall. I couldn't see where we were going. After only 5 minutes, we halted. I assumed it meant we had reached their camp or something. When it seemed that both of the MM had been gone for a few minutes, I got out. The house in front of me was very small, ancient-looking. I looked through a window. It was pitch-black inside. Suddenly, a person (I will call him BB, why? I will tell you later) came to the door. He started to open it. "NO", I shouted.

"What?" The person asked, looking very perplexed.

"Don't go inside. You will be attacked."

"By whom?"

He opened the door. And suddenly, the lights switched on. People came out and screamed in his face "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" The house inside was all decorated, with a lot of balloons. There were at least 10-15 people inside the house. I was confused for a moment. Then it all came to me. It was that man's (BB’s) birthday. The bombs probably meant the balloons. The troops must have meant the people present at the party. ‘He’ was a reference to the birthday boy (BB). And BB must have thought that his friends had forgotten about his birthday. So they had planned a surprise party. I looked at my watch and found out that only 10 minutes were left before my mother came looking for me in the mall’s play area. I sprinted towards the mall. It was very close. The worst day of the year had become the most interesting one in just an hour!
